Why Mulch Around Trees in East Texas?
Here in Texas, we deal with periods of extreme heat and drought. The temperatures and lack of consistent water are extremely hard on our trees.
Rocks, pebbles, or grass often surround trees around homes in the East Texas area. However, to best support the tree, the area around it should be mulched.
Why?
Mulch works by keeping the area around the tree (ultimately its roots) moist and cool which helps it thrive. Rocks and pebbles heat up throughout the day which cause trees extra stress and don’t do much in terms of keeping moisture in.
Grass around a tree is a better option than pebbles or rock, but it competes with the tree for water and nutrients. Also, grass growing around a tree increases the chances of mechanical damage to the trunk and roots – weed eaters and lawnmowers are not a tree’s friend.
So ultimately the best choice for supporting the health of your trees is to have the area of its root zone mulched. This will help keep it cooler and more nourished increasing the chances of your trees thriving.
Proper Tree Mulching
Breitbarth Tree Techs can get the root zones of your trees properly mulched with Texas hardwood mulch. We know how to apply mulch in such a way that it not only looks great, but also helps to keep your tree healthy. This involves not mulching over specific areas that can cause rot, especially when a tree has just been planted, is still young, or when it’s already established and has exposed roots with bark.
